Tavern on the Green Wedding

Liza & Pete // New York, New York

When it comes to weddings in the heart of New York City, few venues can compare to the timeless charm and enchanting beauty of Tavern on the Green. Nestled in the heart of Central Park, this iconic restaurant captivates guests with its rich history, lush surroundings, and impeccable service and food. If you are considering a wedding at Tavern on the Green (or one of the other one-of-a-kind wedding venues around NYC), I hope you feel as inspired by this wedding day as I do. From their Central Park wedding portraits to their stunningly lush reception, I could relive this day over and over again!

Kind Words from Liza & Pete

Searching for a wedding photographer?? STOP right here!! I can assure you, you've found the one. When you book with Lizzie, you are getting so much more than (incredible) photos--you are getting impeccable organization, communication, professionalism--the list goes on. Above all, Lizzie provides a sense of comfort and relief you'd never expect from a vendor on your wedding day. Navigating around NYC on a spring Saturday is far from an easy task, but Lizzie's super-human level of planning had the day running smoothly from start to finish. Her photo assistant Jackie and 2nd photographer Francesca were also a dream, helping out wherever they could. Aside from the wedding day, Lizzie was an absolute joy to work with from the moment we booked her over a year out. She is somehow constantly working yet was always immediately responsive to all of our emails?? We seriously don't know how she does it (I mean, the woman practically lives in Central Park!). We had been given a large list of photographers from our venue, but none of them seemed to quite fit the aesthetic we were hoping for. We count ourselves beyond blessed that we stumbled upon her instagram page and decided to inquire. Her photos are magic--they transport us right back into the moments of pure happiness we felt that day. What more could you ask for?

Wedding Prep in Manhattan

Liza and Pete chose to have a late afternoon ceremony, which allowed for a more relaxed timeline for getting ready before their portraits. Together with her bridal party, Liza got ready at her parent’s West Village apartment while Pete and his groomsmen got ready in Pete’s suite at the JW Marriott Essex House. There was joy in the air, and after capturing their wedding details, we went out to take a few portraits with a vintage NYC cab before heading to Central Park for a majority of their wedding photos. I always ask my couples what they are hoping to get from their wedding photography. Liza and Pete wanted documentary-esque photos that captured how they were feeling at each moment. Challenge accepted! I couldn’t have been happier to capture the genuine emotion between these two beautiful souls.

Central Park Wedding Portraits

With its breathtaking foliage, iconic monuments, and majestic architecture, Central Park provides an incredible backdrop for wedding portraits. Liza and Pete both wore wedding attire that looked timeless and elegant, which was a perfect match for the location. While Pete’s groomsmen looked dashing in black suits, Liza’s ladies looked stunning in shades of champagnes, beiges, and blushes. We took advantage of all the gorgeous outdoor locations around Central Park and Liza, Pete, and their entire wedding party were so full of excitement the entire time. Before we knew it, it was time to head to their wedding at Tavern on the Green!

Tavern on the Green Wedding Ceremony

Tavern on the Green is one of the best wedding venues in New York City and for a good reason. This landmark restaurant is located in the heart of Central Park, and in their own words they “have a history of making memories that will last for decades”. When Liza and Pete told me they chose to have their wedding at the Tavern on the Green, I was beyond thrilled to capture their memories there! I always love to know why my couples choose the venues they do, and because Liza is a native New Yorker that grew up on the Upper West Side, they just felt that the Tavern on the Green made perfect sense. In their words, it’s “Old School NY in the best way”. I could not agree more!

The moment you step through the grand entrance of Tavern on the Green, you are transported to a world of enchantment. The historic building, with its twinkling lights and charming exterior, sets the stage for a wedding that is both elegant and intimate. As you enter the venue, you are greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, adorned with delicate floral arrangements and breathtaking views of Central Park. The ceremony itself takes place in the beautifully manicured courtyard, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flowers. With the iconic Central Park as your backdrop, you exchange your vows amidst the gentle rustling of the city. As the sun casts its golden glow on you and your beloved, it's hard to imagine a more picturesque setting to say "I do."

Tavern on the Green Wedding

Following the ceremony, guests are invited to the elegantly decorated tented reception, where the celebration truly begins. The grand tent, adorned with sparkling chandeliers and adorned mirrors, exudes a timeless glamour that is both sophisticated and welcoming. The attentive staff at Tavern on the Green ensures that every detail is executed flawlessly, from the table settings to the personalized touches that reflect your individual style.

Liza and Pete wanted their wedding to feel like an elevated European garden party, which was exactly what they got. Their wedding reception was flawlessly designed with white florals, cascading greenery, and sparkling chandeliers. Their wedding reception felt fit for royalty - complete with a champagne tower for a touch of Gatsby-level glam, naturally. I was able to sneak Liza and Pete into the space for a quick “reception reveal” before guests arrived so they could see their vision brought to life (and have a moment to soak it all in) before guests arrived.

Dancing Under the Stars in Central Park

As the evening progresses, the newlyweds and their guests take to the dance floor, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The state-of-the-art sound system and lighting enhance the ambiance, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of celebration and joy. The experienced event coordinators at Tavern on the Green work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the magic of the moment. Whether you dream of a lavish affair or an intimate gathering, Tavern on the Green provides the perfect location. When love and elegance come together in the heart of New York City, the result is a wedding that is nothing short of magical.

On top of the wedding being absolutely beautiful from corner to corner, there was so much love and joy radiating from every surface. The dance floor was packed all night long. When I asked Liza and Pete what their favorite part of the wedding planning process was, they both loved walking through the venue with the venue coordinators and talking about their vision for the day. I loved watching their vision come to life today! So happy for the new Mr and Mrs!

Congratulations Liza & Pete! Your wedding felt iconic, and I am so happy for you both!
